CanSkate - LEARN TO SKATE program

CanSkate is Skate Canada's learn-to-skate program for beginners from age 4 to 12. It teaches fundamental movements (forward skating, backward skating, stop, turn, spin and jump) as well as many other basic skills. Skaters are grouped by age and skill, beginning in Stage 1 and progressing through Stage 7. The CanSkate program emphasizes fun and continuous movement and is taught in a group lesson format by professional Skate Canada coaches and assisted by trained Program Assistants. Badges and awards are used to motivate skaters to achieve and develop their skills as well as to keep interest high. CSA approved helmets are mandatory until the skater has passed Stage 5. Skaters must have their own skates (figure skates or hockey skates).

Summer 2017 registration will open in June 2017.

Star Academy (Invitation Only)

STAR Academy is designed to complement Skate Canada's new 'Learn to Train' model, with an increased focus on group development and instruction. Through a combination of coached lessons and individual practice time, the program teaches skaters to train effectively while beginning their transition to figure skating tests and competitions. Skaters must be assessed and approved prior to their participation in the program.

All lesson costs are included in the price of the program. Additional semi private/private lessons can be purchased.

Summer 2017 registration will open in June 2017.

StarSkate Open (Previously called STAR 1)

Star 1 is our only 2 day per week StarSkate program. This program is for skaters 10 years and older, or skaters who have passed all the CanSkate levels and would like to continue to learn to figure skate at a slower paced recreational level than the Junior Development program.

Summer 2017 registration will open in June 2017.

STARSkate - Figure Skating Program

The STARSkate program offers opportunities for skaters to develop figure skating skills in four different areas - Interpretative, Dance, Skating Skills and Free Skate. All StarSkate programs (with the exception of Star 1) require a minimum commitment of a 3 full sessions per week. One of those three sessions must be a morning session. Skaters have the option of taking Skate Canada tests while earning awards and incentives, and participating in competitions, ranging from local to the national level. Skaters enter the STARSkate stream through our Junior Development program, after completing our STAR Academy or CanSkate programs.

Summer 2017 registration will open in June 2017.

CanPowerSkate - Hockey/Ringette Skill Program

CanPowerSkate is geared to hockey and ringette players who can already skate, and who wish to improve their balance, power, agility, speed and endurance skills. Strong skating skills and good physical conditioning are provided through participation in this program. Skaters must have basic forward, backward and stopping skating skills, and should be at least 6 years of age. Advanced and Beginner classes are offered. Full hockey/ringette gear is required.

Unfortunately, we will not be offering the CanPowerSkate program in the Summer 2017 season.
